SustainHealth Locum Of The Month: Catherine, Mental Health Case Manager
SustainHealth recently reached out to our January Locum of the Month, Catherine who kindly agreed to be a part of the SustainHealth Candidate Experience Series and answered our questions in regards to her time working as a Clinical Nurse in QLD.
Catherine is now on her 8th contract for SustainHealth, she has always been hard-working and we love working with her!
What is your current role?
My current role is a Case Manager for clients with complex mental health needs in North West Queensland. I also do some ED work as CL on the acute team, as well and some individual counselling.
How many years of experience do you have?
More than 10 years of experience in a variety of mental health settings. I have worked in community teams, forensic settings, inpatient units and drug and alcohol rehab and detox environments.
What’s an interesting fact about you?
I have 6 adult children and these are now the best years of my life, as I enjoy contract work and travelling around Australia.
Where are you currently located?
North West Queensland.
How long is your contract for?
5 months
Why did you choose this location?
I like to work with my indigenous client and I have worked in several indigenous communities across Australia.
What have been the highlights of your contract?
The different landscapes around North West Queensland are beautiful!
What do you want your fellow contractors to know about your location or job role?
You adapt as you do contract work in different places. It is interesting to see how the people who live in different communities also adapt to their environment. The pace, the language and the modes of doing home visits are all different wherever you go.
What essential items do you take with you when you leave home to work on a contract?
My laptop and my textbooks because I am still studying.

Very good in terms of communication and advocacy.

Oh yes, definitely!

Go somewhere out of your comfort zone and see what new things you learn.
