SustainHealth Locum Of The Month: Annalene, Remote Area Nurse

SustainHealth recently reached out to our April Locum of the Month, Annalene who kindly agreed to be a part of the SustainHealth Candidate Experience Series and answered our questions in regards to her time working as a Remote Area Nurse in NT.

We are excited to offer this well-deserved reward to Annalene, who has shown hard work and dedication to the job at hand. Read on to learn more about their story:

What is your current role?
I’m currently working as a Remote Area Nurse

How many years of experience do you have?
I have been working in Remote Nursing for 7 years now, most of which I served in the Kimberley, WA. Finally I have stepped out of my “comfort zone” and taken my first Agency Contract with SustainHealth.

Where are you currently located?
Remote SA

How long is your contract?
This contract was only meant to be 2 weeks however with the COVID-19 virus we have all had to be isolated in Alice Springs for 2 weeks prior to going into community, which we all understand the importance of keeping COVID-19 out of local communities. I will be extending the contract for 2 extra weeks to make up for required isolation

What have been the highlights of your contract?
I guess the scariest thing for me to “step outside of my comfort zone” is to work with people that I don’t know and whether they are easy to get along with. This is so important to me, as working remote, along with the many day to day difficulties we meet with our challenging role; requires team effort and a great deal of comradery. Without that, it’s an unpleasant experience.

How did you hear about SustainHealth?
The 2 “amazing” nurses I have been working with have been nothing short of so very supportive, understanding and considerate. They have been with the local team for several years which has to say a lot about the company. The team here have been very supportive as well, all of the support people are also so patient and helpful.

How have you found the service from your consultant at SustainHealth?
Amanda has been very supportive in “getting the ball rolling” for me, with all of the paper work that most of us know can be a chore. She was very attentive in listening to my needs in the beginning as I really only want to work short contracts. Her phone calls have been very helpful, especially following up my comfort and safe arrival.

Final Word: What is your top tip for other health professionals when choosing their next contract?
I will be definitely advising friends to “go forward” and also “step outside their comfort zone” to join SustainHealth and enjoy their professionalism with placing people in appropriate places to suit their needs.
