SustainHealth Locum of the Month: Deeone, Registered Nurse

Meet Deeone, our SustainHealth Nursing and Midwifery locum of the month.

With over two decades of nursing experience, Deeone is currently on contract in NSW. From embracing rural healthcare settings to exploring local history and culture, she brings passion, warmth, and dedication to every placement. Read on to learn more about Deoone…

My current role, being a registered nurse for 22 years, is in the busy inpatient unit in Central Western NSW. The hospital and its services are fairly new and there is an abundance of equipment to enhance patient cares within the facility and its community. My contract, being for 10 weeks, was actually allocated to me by “Angel,” my recruitment consultant at SustainHealth. It allows me to have a good work / life balance to visit some of the smaller towns and their sites in the region; however, there is the option of doing extra shifts when required. I love learning about the history of small towns and here in Parkes is no exception.

The CSIRO observatory, famous for its involvement in the first moon landing and star of the movie “The Dish” is located here in Parkes. Parkes is so named after Sir Henry Parkes who was a colonial Australian politician, the longest serving premier of the colony of NSW, the father of federation, and acted as a proponent for the expansion of the Australian Continental railway network. Every year Parkes hosts the famous Elvis festival, and locals and tourists take pride in dressing to look like Elvis. Interestingly enough, the Henry Parkes visitors centre has the greatest exhibit of Elvis Presley memorabilia in the Southern Hemisphere.

The highlights of my contract include the welcoming words I have received from all staff in the hospital, assisting in the emergency department and enjoying the wholesome foods at the hospital cafe made daily by their pastry chef.

Essential items I take with me on contract is a one pot cooker and my heated blanket which allow me to feel like I am cooking and staying warm at home during the winter months.

I came across SustainHealth Recruitment on a Facebook advertisement and also on LinkedIn and the read their testimony of being a multi-award winning Australian owned and operated specialist agency that provided support to rural, regional and remote community health care services and after speaking with my senior recruitment consultant, “Angel” knew I wanted to sign up and be part of their team.

“Angel” has a beautiful, warm, bubbly and caring nature and has provided me with opportunities I would never have had, had I stayed in my previous mainstream job. When speaking with her it feels like I am speaking with family with our discussions going beyond work contracts. I often tell her about my adventures to other towns I have visited during my contacts and in return she supports me in adapting to new work / life challenges which helps me to seek opportunities for growth and development in my profession.

I would have no hesitation in recommending SustainHealth to colleagues and friends as they have acted in my best interests and provided me with job satisfaction and avast network that facilitates roles where I can excel and grow.

My top tip for other professionals when choosing their next contract is to research the place you are going to, find out what facilities are available to you i.e. shopping and sites to see and remember it’s not always about the money you are earning, it’s about supporting the community you are in and working in a good environment with a good team.
